How to split cell Text to Column in Excel

In this lesson, we will learn how to split cell text in Excel into several cells within several columns.

Suppose we have a data set within a single cell. We want to split this data into a group of cells so that each part of the data is within a separate column. This is called splitting the cell.

Suppose I have several emails for more than one person within a single cell, and we want to split these emails so that each email is within a cell in a horizontal order.

Suppose I have these emails:

several emails
several emails

We will put them within a single cell in Excel to test the possibility of splitting the cell.

We notice that the information is confined to the first cell “A”.

the information in the cell "A"
the information in the cell “A”

If we click on cell “B1”, we will notice that it is empty. Also, we notice between the emails a semicolon mark that we can use for division.

Applying the cell-splitting process

To perform the splitting process, first, click on the cell that contains the writing, and from the toolbar choose “Data”.

"Data"
“Data”

Then we choose “Text to Columns”, and then choose “Delimited”.

"Data"
“Delimited

We click “Next” and an interface appears through which we can choose the mark or tool that we will use for the splitting:

Tab: A single space between the information.

Semicolon: A semicolon between the information.

Comma: A regular comma between the information.

Space: A space between the information.

Other: We can select any tool to separate the information and write it in the attached box.

In my example, I will choose the “Semicolon”, so we notice how the information was divided into a group of columns.

"Semicolon"
“Semicolon”

We then click “Next”, so an interface appears through which we can select the type of cells, and in our example, we will leave it “General”, then click “Finish”.

"Finish"
“General”

We notice that the information has been divided into several cells, which is what is required.
